2020: A Year Like No Other
2020 was a year like no other in the history of the modern world due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Many, many people lost their jobs or were laid off. Here in the UK, some were furloughed, protecting their jobs for the first few months of the crisis. Thousands of businesses collapsed and thousands more closed down temporarily, desperately waiting to open their doors again. From a financial point of view, no-one was untouched. Except, perhaps, the very wealthy …
Relying on someone else for our incomes is the norm throughout the modern world, but as the Covid situation showed, it isn’t necessarily ideal.
We are constantly being told we’re in a cost of living crisis, partly due to the aftermath of Covid, partly due to the situation in Ukraine. (And possibly 🧐 some mis-management of the economy!) Prices for fuel – whether that’s for transport, cooking or heating our homes – have skyrocketed and inflation has been at an all-time high, causing financial difficulties for a large section of the population.
Something Interesting Happened During the Pandemic of 2020
There were more new businesses started during 2020 than in the previous year. For the UK, the numbers were 726,000 versus 636,000 in 2019. In the USA, an incredible 4.4 million extra businesses were created, the highest number in history! As Brett Grossfeld states in his article on 360 Blog**, “When times get tough, people get entrepreneurial”. They certainly do!
Historically, during periods of depression and market crashes, new businesses are formed – many of these are hugely successful.
That Elusive Second Income
Many people want – or need – a second income, regardless of how things are in the current economy. There are lots of ways you can do this by earning money online. From simple things like filling in surveys to learning affiliate marketing, there is something for everyone.
You don’t need to be a computer expert, nor do you need to learn any special coding or languages. What you do need is the enthusiasm to learn something new and some spare time in which to do it.
