Don’t Let the Naysayers Steal Your Dreams #Life Skills

What do we mean by the title, don’t let the naysayers steal your dreams? 🤔 Well, if you want to change your life, perhaps by travelling, changing career, or starting a business, it can feel essential to share your reasons with those around you: the people who are most important to you. The problem is, they may not necessarily give you the feedback you’re looking for.

Have you ever told a friend, partner, family member or colleague that you’re going to do something, only to have them respond by telling you that it’s silly, or that it’ll never work? Or even worse, that you’re wasting your time because you’re going to fail anyway?

Examining the Feelings Naysayers have on you

How did their response make you feel? Did it make you shy away from carrying out the necessary steps to get you to where you want to be?

Perhaps it made you feel that what you wanted was unachievable? Or that you shouldn’t even bother because it’s not worth the effort?

You may not realise it, but when you react in this way you are allowing other people to dissolve your dreams by giving away your personal power.

Don’t Let the Naysayers Win

The simplest and best way to beat the naysayers is to build a circle of people around you who believe in you, those you find inspirational, or who you admire; perhaps people who already have what you want. Then try to move the energy-sappers outside of your circle. You don’t have to drop them completely at this stage – they could be your loved ones, after all – but don’t allow their opinions to halt you.

As you raise your personal standards, and your self-belief increases, these people will no longer be able to influence you in a negative way.

Surround yourself with positive people as often as you can and notice how different your energy is when you’re connecting with them.

Moving On

We would also suggest reading books about self-development and how to build your self-confidence. Then, other people’s opinions will no longer influence you as strongly as they once did. It’s a gradual process, but one worth pursuing. Once you’re confident in your own abilities, then you can move forward in a more positive way.

What’s A Naysayer?

The dictionary definition of a naysayer is someone who criticises, objects to, complains, opposes something, or is a killjoy. Example in context, “he continues to win, despite the many naysayers“. I believe we have all known people like this in our lives from time to time.
